(Pocket-lint) – The EE Pocket-lint Awards shortlist has been announced celebrating the best products and devices across 20 categories spanning smartphones and tablets, to cars and smartwatches.
The Best Camera award covers a range of devices, from petite action cameras to hefty mirrorless workhorses.

DJI Osmo Action 3
DJI’s third-generation action camera makes a return to its original GoPro-style form factor, with a significant bump in specs and some unique features to keep things exciting. The redesigned Action 3 is much easier to use than its predecessor, as well as being highly compatible with third-party mounts.
This action camera has some advantages over the market leader, too. It has a front-facing touch-screen display, which is much more useful than we initially expected, and also boasts a brilliant magnetic quick-release mounting system.
Fujifilm X-H2
The Fujifilm X-H2 has the highest resolution sensor that we’ve seen on an APS-C camera, which allows it to shoot video at up to 8K resolution and shoot 40MP photos. It’s a seriously impressive camera with fantastic build quality and excellent specifications for hybrid shooters.
It’s cheaper than its speedier sibling, the X-H2S, but by no means inferior, you simply trade speed for resolution. This makes it an appealing prospect because if you don’t need super slow-motion or fast burst-shooting, you can get more detailed photos, and 8K video, while saving a stack of cash.
GoPro Hero 11 Black
The GoPro Hero 11 Black looks a lot like the Hero 10 Black, and the Hero 9 before that, but on the inside, it’s a different beast entirely. This is mainly due to the new 8:7 sensor, which allows you to create horizontal, vertical and square-format videos from the same clip without sacrificing resolution.
It also features the widest FOV of any GoPro so far, with its new HyperView digital lens. Add to this some great software features like light-painting modes and the best HyperSmooth stabilisation yet, and it’s easy to see why the GoPro Hero 11 Black has caused a splash.
Insta360 X3
The Insta360 X3 is a refinement of one of the most popular 360 cameras of all time. This version has a massively improved screen and user interface, and this combination makes it easier than ever to use.
Combine this with some class-leading software, and you’ve got one of the most attractive 360 cameras on the market today. It might not be a massive leap in daylight video performance but photography has been significantly improved, as have the low-light capabilities.
Panasonic Lumix GH6
The long-awaited successor to the formidable GH5 is finally with us, and it was worth the wait. It brings with it a serious list of features including internal ProRes recording at up to 5.7K and a multitude of high-speed video options.
Panasonic is known for its excellent in-body image stabilisation, and that makes an appearance here, too. All this, combined with a selection of compact and affordable lenses, as well as a reasonably priced body, mean that it’s one of the most appealing cameras available, especially for video makers.
Sony A7 IV
The Sony A7 IV is one of the most well-rounded hybrid cameras you can purchase today. A 33MP full-frame sensor provides plenty of detail, while 10-bit video recording will delight professionals looking to colour-grade their work. It also benefits from Sony’s industry-leading autofocus system, ensuring that your photos and videos are tack-sharp in all scenarios.
Whereas most cameras tend to favour either photography or video, the A7 IV balances things nicely and is equally at home in a wide range of scenarios.
How the Pocket-lint Awards judging works
The winner for the Best Camera category is decided by the Pocket-lint team, along with a panel of expert judges from publications across the industry. Following the scoring process, the Best Camera winner for 2022 will be announced at an in-person event on 30 November 2022 in Central London, along with the winners from the other 19 categories.
A Product of the Year winner will also be announced, chosen from the winners of the 20 categories and a winner of the EE Superfast Award, will also be revealed at the event. We will be announcing the results on the Pocket-lint Twitter handle as they unfold on the night so keep an eye out there.
